208 For thus you will bring forth, with gentle birth pangs, a male offspring named Ishmael, having been brought to reason through the hearing of divine things. For Ishmael is interpreted as "hearing God." But hearing takes second place to seeing. Seeing, however, has been allotted to the legitimate and firstborn son, Israel, for his name is translated as "seeing God." For it is possible to hear false things as if they were true, because hearing is deceptive; but seeing is without deception, and it is through seeing that existing things are perceived as existing.
